How To Draw A Backpack
Step 1:
Before starting with this guide on drawing a backpack, you will need a light pencil. You’ll be using a pencil because you’ll be drawing shapes to guide you, and they won’t appear in the final image. Using your pencil and following our reference image, you can draw a rounded square for the bottom of the backpack. You can then use a curved line on this shape for the top half of the backpack.
Step 2:
Now that you have the guide shapes for drawing your backpack, you can add the appropriate lines with your pen. For this step, we’ll focus on the top half of the backpack. You can use three shapes that get smaller as they go up. The last one will be much smaller since it will be the backpack carrying strap in the final image.
Step 3:
In this part of our guide on drawing a backpack, we will focus on the bottom half of the backpack and add the main straps. First, for the bottom half of the backpack, you can use your pen to walk around the rounded square from step one. You can draw curved lines from the top to the bottom of the backpack to create the straps. Finally, draw a semicircle shape on the top half of the backpack for additional detail.
Step 4:
Your backpack design is starting to take shape now! In this step of your drawing, you can add more curved lines inside the outlines of the straps to finish them off. Then you can draw some simple horizontal lines on the bottom half of the backpack for some pockets.
Step 5:
Before moving on to colouring your drawing, there are a few final details to add to this guide on how to draw a backpack. First, you can draw a line on the bottom of the backpack to form its base. Once you’ve added that, you can take your eraser and erase all the pencil lines from step 1. When you do this, wait until all the ink in the pen is dry before you start erasing. Otherwise, you risk smudging the ink.
Once you’ve done that, you’re technically ready for the final step, but you don’t have to go ahead just yet! Before you finish, you can add some of your final details to customize your backpack template further. These could include stylistic designs for the background or decorative elements like badges or key rings. Step 6:
You can have fun adding amazing colours to the image for the final step of drawing your backpack! Our sample image used reds, purples, blues, and yellows. We chose these colours for our example, but this is a step where you can get creative and show us what you can do. Backpacks can come in all colours and patterns, so there’s no limit to what you can do! This is your chance to use all your favourite colours to finish off your backpack!
Once you know what colours to use, you can choose the art medium for this drawing. If you want brighter and more vivid colours, you can use paint, coloured pens or markers. For more subdued colours, you can try watercolours or colored pencils for this look. For even more fun, you can add crafts like sequins, beads or stickers to personalize it more!
