Kapalabhati and Breath Retention should be done on an empty stomach and should not be done within two hours of consuming food.

The different types of Pranayama.

  1. Anuloma Viloma: Energy enters through one nostril and is expelled out of the other.2. Biapanasana: Also known as the Butterfly breath, this breath is done lying on the back. Bend the knees, and fold one leg over the other.3. Kapalbhati: A forceful breath.

    4. Brahmari: Also called alternate nostril breathing.

    5. Brahmarasana: Also known as the Bridge pose, the breath is done lying on the back.

How to do Pranayama.

Breathwork Teacher Training

Breathwork teacher training and certification is offered by level, beginning with foundational training, increasing in complexity with each level. A core foundational Breathwork teacher certification involves 90 hours of training.

Breathwork teacher training is delivered by an intensive, experiential curriculum that guides the students through a thorough learning experience in a series of classes and practice sessions. The Breathwork teacher training curriculum is developed by Breathwork teachers and practitioners who themselves have risen through the ranks to hold senior teaching positions at institutes around the world.

Training is conducted over a full 9 months, so participants develop a solid foundation in Breathwork as a practice, learn the practical application of Breathwork for physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing, and are introduced to advanced Breathwork practices. Breathwork teacher training also aims to create a safe space for personal and professional development and support, and to foster a deep sense of community and shared experience amongst the students. No prior Breathwork experience is necessary.

Difference between Pranayama and Breathwork Teacher Training

Pranayama is a breathing technique that focuses on inhaling and exhaling under guidance. Breathwork, on the other hand, involves breathing techniques that are self-directed. The latter is also referred to as Self-Directed Breathwork or (SDB) and is explored further in this course.

Breathwork has been practiced in the ancient cultures of India and China. However, it has only recently become a sought after practice in the United States. Breathwork teacher training programs are generally 9-18 days. There is also an Advanced Breathwork Teacher Training which is 3 weeks long. These programs are conducted by the Art of Breath international school and sanctioned by the Breathwork Foundation in the US.

Breathwork teacher training programs are different from yoga asana teacher training programs. Breathwork teacher training programs adapt specific techniques to the context of breathwork, whereas yoga asana teacher training programs are structured around the various asanas (postures) practiced in yoga.
